Cable Krk in the bay of Punat and Wakeboard club Krk today hosted Marina Punat Croatia Open - The first stop of the European Cable Wakeboard Tour 2004, a contest in an attractive board sport, a water variant of snowboard. 54 riders from Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Serbia, Bulgaria and Hungary competed on a sunny (yet somewhat windy) day in Junior and Open categories for special prizes.

This dynamic and relatively new sport attracted numerous spectators at Cable Krk that cheered their favorites in morning qualifications and the afternoon finals. Croatian and foreign riders performed at the 300 m long course with two obstacles - a kicker and a slider. Three members Jury graded their execution, intensity and composition.

The best in Open Men was Patrick Viererbe from Germany, also a last year's Croatia Open winner. In Open Ladies won Julia Bormann, also from Germany, and the best Junior was Marcel Doorgeest from Netherlands. The only Croatian rider in finals was Silvia Troselj, excellent second in Open Ladies.

Although Croatia has only two wakeboard and waterski cableways, this is the third international cable wakeboard competition at Krk, and the reactions from riders and guests are excellent. Croatia has two registered wakeboard clubs, Krk and Paragon, whose seven riders today represented our colors.

In hotel Kanajt in Punat yesterday began a yearly Judges and Officials Seminar, organized by EAME Cable Wakeboard Council. 16 people from 8 European countries took part. Tomorrow they'll have a chance to take the exams for 4 judging levels - from National 3 (lowest) to International 1 (highest). Seminar and exams consist of the theory (rules) and video analysis. Find more about European Cable Wakeboard Council at www.cablewakeboard.net.

Even tough Wakeboard club Krk opened this season with classic waterski event for disabled, the activities of the club and Cable Krk are almost completely wakeboard oriented. Therefore, Cable Krk will also host the first Croatian and Slovenian Cable Wakeboard Nationals in September.
